What thinking, reading, viewing, and writing skills are required in your field of study? Reflect on those possibilities.

- For the college study, my major was History; I had to read a lot of article’s histories, novels, legends, history’s documents and so on. After I read, I had to interpret every book. Then, I compared every subject to find the history truth which I had to brainstorm the fact by using key words, note taking, evaluating and paraphrasing the text which connected to this chapter’s technique. Sometime, I interpreted history’s picture to find the meaning and identified the sculptural arts from each era. After I analyzed, synthesized and evaluated texts, I collected them. Then, I summarize them by using my own words.

I writed an essay about my trip to the United State in 2005. I wish you'll enjoy read mine. Badly, I have only couple of pictures at Seattle because I didn't bring my picture album's CD here.

Fly Away

In March 2005, I had an opportunity to join a cultural exchange program at Palatine, Illinois which closed to Chicago. This program gave a chance for international college students to work and travel over the United State in summer. I and my two closed friends are Oil and Ekky desired to join this program because we wanted to spend our last summer to travel together before we graduate.

Our flight departed from Bangkok on March 5 2005 at midnight. While we sat on the plane, Ekky asked me how excited I am. I should to be excited but I was tried more than excited. Before I flew, I spent my last week in to prepare myself for the final examinations and my six papers for History class. I also had to go to the U.S. embassy for my visa interview. Those did not include packing my two big luggages. Beside that on my last day, after finishing the final examinations, I went to the embassy to pick up my passport and visa at four o’ clock in the afternoon, came back to my home for packing my bags and leaved my home to the airport for checking-in at ten o’clock in evening. It seemed like I did not have time to breathe or rest. So, I spent most of the time on the plane to sleep while Ekky and Oil talked and took pictures.

Flying five hours, we arrived at Incheon Airport International in South Korean. Our flight was not direct to the United State. We had to transfer to another flight which departed in next seven hours. Hence, Oil desired that we should to pass Korean’s immigrations and spend times visited at Seoul downtown because Thai passport did not have to apply for visa to Korean, if we stay not over than ninety days. We took an airport bus to Seoul with map that the information’s staff gave us. I hadn’t known idea where we go but Oil and Ekky convinced me that we won’t lose. We visited to Kyung-bok Palace, the Grand Palace of Joseon dynasty. The palace located in downtown of Seoul. Kyung-bok included Korean traditional museum and Kimchi’s museum. Kimchi is Korean traditional food. I liked Kimchi’s museum because it’s very unique. In there, I had tried varies of Kimchi; also, there is a class for teaching how to make it, too. We spent a lot of time there. Then, we walked about two blocks to Tongdea mun market where Korean’s teenagers like to hang out. There are a lot of local restaurants which very cheap. I thought for a meal was about three to five U.S. dollars. After lunch, we went back to the airport for flying to America. Of course, I still spent most of the times for sleeping.

Seattle was the first city – Seoul was not in our plan – which we traveled after we arrived to America. Sleeping almost fifteen hours, I had a lot of energy to sight seeing Seattle, now! We stayed at Seattle for four days. The motel closed to Tacoma International Airport and we paid seventy U.S. dollars for two nights. We chose to stay there because we had to get on another flight to Chicago in the next four days and we had limited budget which is the most important reason. We took a bus to downtown Seattle to visit the art museum, the aircraft museum which there is a lot of Boeing’s aircrafts exhibition because Boeing’s company located at Seattle. We also visited to Space Needle, the symbol of Seattle. I am very impressed about everything I saw. I think the city’s plan were difference than Bangkok. Streets in America planed as square, so it is very easy for tourists like us to travel by ourselves with only map. If tourists travel to Bangkok with only map, I pretty sure that they will lost the way. Streets in the big city like Bangkok are very confused not only for tourists but also for Thai’s people, too. Streets in Seoul are similar as Bangkok. One more different thing between Seattle and Bangkok is night life. In the heart of Bangkok is still crowded until midnight, Thai people love to go out for dining and shopping at night market and malls also close at ten o’clock at the evening everyday. In Seattle, after seven o’clock at night is very quiet, I didn’t see people walk along streets and stores were closed. We went to Seattle in the end of winter. I was freezing. In Thailand has winter season but is very short and the lowest temperature was 60ํF. People said Seattle rained only three days per year. Is that true?

On the fourth day, we had to leave Seattle at seven o’clock in the morning; so, we agreed to stay overnight at the airport to save our money and to be sure that we won’t miss the flight. Now, I think it was a terrible idea because that night, I could not sleep at all and chairs were not comfortable for sleeping. I remembered that I just walked around the airport and wished that counter's check-in will open soon. Finally, staffs were here and started check-in. I was glad to leave there. To the destination, it took four days, three flights from Bangkok – Seoul – Seattle – Chicago and two cities to arrived Chicago. I felt so exhausted more than the time that I left Bangkok. Also, I slept on the plane, again…zzzzzzzz
